A man was collared at a grocery store pharmacy during a failed robbery attempt last week, according to police.

Middletown Township police were called to the Giant Food Store at The Shoppes at Flowers Mill last Friday at 10:59 a.m. for a reported armed robbery that was in a progress. A man was said to be demanding narcotics while stating he was armed, according to court papers.

An officer arrived and saw the man matching the description of the suspect at the pharmacy counter and took him into custody, police said.

The pharmacist said the suspect – identified as Patrick McGrath, 51, of Philadelphia – told them: “I have a Glock. You have two minutes, and I need Oxy 10, Oxycontin 80 mg, and Xanax.”

A pharmacy student working the store also said McGrath made that demand, according to police.

Police said they were able to detain McGrath before the pharmacy workers turned over any drugs.

The Giant Food Store sits a mere 740 feet from the police station.

McGrath was charged with robbery, attempted robbery, attempted theft, theft, simple assault, and terroristic threats. He was arraigned by on-call District Judge Daniel Baranoski and remanded to county lockup last Friday on 10 percent of $75,000 bail.

A York County man posted bond for McGrath on Monday, according to court records.
