Boy Scouts Deliver Hoagies To Officers On Super Bowl Sunday

The Scouts and leaders of BSA Troop 11 head into the Bristol Borough police station to make their first delivery of hoagies to the officers.

On Sunday, Boy Scouts from BSA Troop 11 visited four local police stations to donate hoagies to the officers.

“It’s a way of showing our appreciation for all the work the officers do protecting the communities. Plus, they are working in the snow and on Super Bowl Sunday. We just wanted to thank them,” said Troop 11 scoutmaster Sam Kitchen.

Wayne Rogers, who son Liam is a member of Troop 11, said that while taking orders for the hoagies, some people didn’t want the hoagies, but wanted to just donate money to the troop. So he and his wife, who’s brother is a Bristol Borough police officer, came up with the idea to take the donated money and buy hoagies for the officers of Bristol Borough, Bristol Township, Falls Township, and Tullytown Borough police departments who had to work on Super Bowl Sunday.

Kitchen’s wife Sandra, who is the committee head for the troop said: “On a snowy day, the officers can grab a hoagie and keep it in the car with them, and makes a perfect meal.”

Scoutmaster Kitchen and his son Daniel, Wayne and Liam Rogers, and Jim and Jack Rugarber acted as the delivery crew representing Troop 11, making the rounds in the snow to feed the hungry officers.

Sgt. Al Hankinson of the Bristol Borough police happily accepted the donation from the troop.

“It is really nice to see the sign of appreciation from the community. It’s nice to feel the love and appreciation,” Hankinson said.

Sgt. Chuck Burns of the Bristol Township Police echoed the sentiments of Hankinson that the officers appreciate the show of support for the community.

Troop 11 is in its second year of existence, and is based out of the Thornridge Community Church in Falls Township’s Levittown section.

The troop use the hoagie sale, with Redner’s Market providing the sandwiches, to help raise money for scouting activities.
