Upon the opening of court Tuesday morning Henry A. James arose and announced to the Court that on Sunday morning, January 12, 1913, Hon. Mahlon H. Stout, who had presided over the several courts of Bucks County from January, 1904, to January 18, 1912, had died, whereupon the Court, after a few commendatory remarks on the life and career of the deceased Judge, directed that the several courts of the county stand adjourned until Saturday morning, January 18, 1913, at 10 o’clock.
Mr. James in announcing the death of Judge Stout recounted his public services and spoke of the great sympathy felt for him during his long illness.
Judge William C. Ryan spoke briefly as follow: “We have lea learned with deep sorrow of the death of the Hon. Mahlon H. Stout, formerly President Judge of the County Common Pleas of this county. During the eight years he held the judicial office he brought to the discharge of its grave and responsible duties the ripe experience of an able lawyer and the integrity of purpose of a conscientious public servant. As a mark of respect for his memory we direct that an appropriate minute of this announcement be made in the preceding of this court and that the court do now adjourn until Saturday morning, next at 10 o’clock.”
