Earlier this month, Harry S. Truman High School students virtually competed in the District 10 DECA Conference and Competition. Pennsylvania DECA, formerly Distributive Education Clubs of America, prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management at the high school and college level.

Normally, the conference is held for a full day at Temple University, but they switched to a virtual format due to COVID-19. Students took exams online where they were given problems to solve in their fields and record their answers.

Seven Truman students participated and all placed in the top of their categories, allowing them to move on to the 70th Annual State Career Development Conference, which will be conducted virtually from February 17-19. This is an opportunity for more than 2,000 DECA students to network and compete with the best in Pennsylvania.

โ€œEven though this year our district conference was held virtually, my students shined! I am proud that they were able to overcome obstacles this year in order to participate,โ€ said Trumanโ€™s DECA Advisor Angela Owarzani. โ€œA huge thank you to Truman’s own Ryan Vogt, PA DECA Vice President, for all his hard work in planning and organizing this unusual way for the district conference to be held. Also, congratulations to Joey Warrell, who had the highest test score out of 50 students in Business Management and Administration.โ€
