A Bristol Borough man who has been known for being at the center of controversy has been charged with possessing a weapon that he allegedly displayed during an argument.

Kevin G. Brannigan, 64, was arraigned before District Judge Jan Vislosky Tuesday afternoon on a single felony charge of possession of a firearm while prohibited. He was released on $75,000 unsecured bail.

The charge against Brannigan came after an investigation handled by Bucks County Detectives.

Brannigan works the Klean Kars by Kevin detailing shop on Old Route 13 near Mill Street. Until last year, he served as a code enforcement officer for the municipality.

Bristol Borough officers were called on July 31 to the business for a report of a verbal dispute between two groups of men. The alleged incident had been recorded.

A Bucks County Detective wrote in court papers that “video clearly showed that Kevin G. Brannigan was holding in his hands a shotgun-style firearm” while outside the business during the argument.

On August 4, detectives executed a search warrant on the Klean Kars by Kevin and recovered a Winchester shotgun inside the business, according to court papers.

Detectives said the weapon was tested and confirmed to be a viable firearm.

Brannigan allegedly told a detective that he possessed the gun during the argument because “there was three against two, and if one of them enter the garage that they are going to bite it.” He also is reported to have stated to have received the shotgun after a family member’s death in 2015.

Due to a past conviction following a Bucks County Detectives investigation in 2004, Brannigan is unable to possess a firearm.

Court records show the 2004 case had Brannigan plead guilty to prohibited offensive weapon and conspiracy. He was sentenced to two years of probation.

A video that appears to be the alleged incident appeared on Facebook in summer. It shows a younger man yelling “f**k Black Lives Matter, f**k George Floyd,” while the older man holds what appears to be a firearm.

Kevin’s Klean Kars has been in operation for around 40 years and has drawn controversy over the years. Residents have long complained about a pickup truck that often is parked outside the business and blocks the sidewalk.
