An education center to replace one that burnt down will be constructed on Bucks County-owned land in Bristol Township.

The county received a waiver of land development from Bristol Township Council on Wednesday evening to build a 2,000-square-foot modular education center at Humphrey’s Park in the rear of the Bloomsdale-Fleetwing section of the township.

The previous small community center at the site was destroyed in a 2018 arson.

The facility will have high-speed internet access and work spaces for students, said Bucks County Project and Diversity Officer Bernard Griggs.

In the future, the center will also be able to provide lunches to students.

“We’re looking for it to be a beacon in the community,” Griggs said.

Community nonprofit No Longer Bound is partnering with the county on the project.

The new facility would have a driveway and turnabout for easy patrols by police to check in on the building.

Bucks County Commissioner Chairperson Diane Ellis-Marseglia said the request for the waiver of land development is because the county is using federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act money that is required to be spent by the end of the year.

At the Bucks County Commissioners meeting on Wednesday, contracts were approved for $59,750 to Pennoni Associates for engineering and construction oversight for the education center and $333,764 to Vanguard Modular Building Systems to purchase the structure.
