Harry S. Truman High School’s new principal is a familiar face.

The Bristol Township School Board voted Monday evening to promote Jon Craig, the former assistant principal, to the top leadership position.

Craig will replace former Principal Lyndell Davis who left in summer to take the top leadership role at Unami Middle School in Central Bucks School District.

“I’m looking forward to working with our outstanding team here at Truman to collectively lead our school community through these difficult times,” said Craig. “They are having small wins and big victories every day.”

Craig encouraged students and teachers to take care of themselves and others, especially during the pandemic and virtual learning.

“If we stay focused on those goals, we’ll find our way through this,” said Craig. “We are developing a plan and program around the idea #TigerSTRONG, which will drive our progress in academics, athletics, activities and everything in between. I’m excited for the journey ahead and our team at Truman is second to none.”

“Craig served as assistant principal since last fall and this year marks his 16th year in Bristol Township School District. He spent eleven of those years in the classroom as a high school social studies teacher, including three years as the social studies department chair. He also spent three years as an instructional coach for Truman and Mill Creek Elementary, and coached football at Truman for nine years with three years as head coach,” a statement from the district read.

The high school’s new principal has a history bachelor’s degree from Ursinus College, a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from Fresno Pacific University, and an administrative certification from the University of Scranton.

Before appointing Craig, the school district sent out a community survey to gather information from the community and the administration interviewed 20 candidates for the job.

“Jon and the other administrators have been working collaboratively. I know he will achieve wonderful accomplishments as head principal,” said Superintendent Dr. Melanie Gehrens.

While Craig expects the scope of his work to change, he remains steadfast in how crucial the job is for the high school.

“Relying on our team, speaking and listening to all our stakeholders, from faculty and staff, to students, and families, and including more teachers in leadership roles will be crucial to our collective success,” he said. “These are things I worked to do as an assistant and will continue as the principal.”

Since Davis left, the assistant principals at the high school have been sharing head principal responsibilities and collaborating on decision-making.
