Wednesday marked the first day that mail-in ballots were sent to Bucks Countians who requested them.

During the Wednesday Bucks County Commissioners meeting, Chief Clerk Gail Humphrey announced the first batch of ballots had been mailed.

The county said in a statement that as many as 30,000 ballots were expected to be mailed out Wednesday and as many as 18,000 more ballots would be shipped off each day until the more than 160,000 requests are fulfilled.

Commissioner Bob Harvie said voters who applied for a mail-in ballot will receive one. Once completed, the voter must place the ballot in the secrecy envelope, which must then be sealed and placed inside the return envelope that has to be mailed or dropped off to the county.

“You must include the ballot in the secrecy envelope. If it is not included in the secrecy envelope, it cannot be counted in this county or any other county in this Commonwealth,” he said. “We’re not allowed to even look at it.”

Harvie, who heads the Board of Elections, urged people to vote and mail back or drop off the ballots.

Mail-in and absentee ballot requests have to be received no later than Tuesday, October 27. Completed ballots must be postmarked by Tuesday, November 3 and received by Friday, November 6 in order to be counted.

Voters can apply for mail-in or absentee ballots at VotesPA.com and at the Board of Elections’ main office in Doylestown Borough.

In-person voting will take place from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. across the county on Tuesday, November 3. A list of polling places can be found online.

At the county offices in Bristol Township, Doylestown Borough, and Richland Township, election officials have the option to print on-demand ballots that can be completed immediately and returned at the secure drop box.

Each mail-in and absentee ballot will have a barcode to make sure a voter cannot cast more than one ballot.
