A large number of people came out last Thursday evening to the sprawling Waste Management property in Falls Township to the pollinator garden for a monarch butterfly tagging event.
The event allowed the public to collect monarch caterpillars from the garden and take them home in a jar with tags, a supply of milkweed, and instructions. Those who were able to capture a monarch caterpillar will be able to watch it develop into a butterfly, plug information to a tracking database, and release the butterfly, which will next head south and possibly as far away as Mexico. The pollinator garden and meadow near the landfill at the Penn Warner Club was developed on a 1.5-acre grass field in 2014 along Pennsbury Memorial Road. The garden hosts community groups, school groups, and the public.
