Middletown Township will be the site of live outdoor concerts with social distancing in place.

The township Parks and Recreation Department and Falls Township-based Mid Atlantic Event Group teamed up for the upcoming Drive-In Concert Series that will be hosted at the parking lot of the former Boscov’s parking lot at the Oxford Valley Mall.

On Friday, August 7 starting at 5 p.m. popular cover band Split Decision will perform.

On Saturday, August 8 beginning at 5 p.m., Shot of Southern Band will take to the stage.

For the concerts, there will be food trucks and a full concert production. Each vehicle will be charged $25 per person with a minimum of two people. Those who purchase tickets will get a parking space for their car and a tailgating space with distance between other groups.

The event will enforce safety protocols.

“I can’t think of a better way to not only give people a genuine live concert experience, but to give back to the community,” said Kyle Kelly, president of Mid Atlantic Event Group. “The greater Philadelphia area has been through a lot in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, and it’s time they get out and enjoy themselves for a safe evening — to get out of the house, to get away from their troubles, and to remember what it was like to enjoy a live concert experience — and our drive-in concert series does just that.”

In a statement, the township said there are more socially distant concerts for August and September in the works.

Mid Atlantic Event Group has been hosting outdoor movie events with a similar format in Falls Township and Lower Makefield.
