Bristol Township Chief of Police Robert Coulton penned a letter to the community Wednesday in the wake of the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis as the hands of police.
The letter comes more than a week after Floyd’s death and the nationwide protests that have spurred a conversation about race and policing.

Bristol Township is the second largest municipality in Bucks County and among the most diverse.
Below is the chief’s letter:
On behalf of the men and women of the Bristol Township Police Department:
The tragic death of George Floyd has understandably sparked outrage throughout our nation.
The video of Mr. Floyd is sickening and has left us feeling shocked and appalled. We feel disgusted that this criminal act perpetrated by police officers will negate the everyday good performed by police officers in our American communities.
I would like to personally reassure everyone that we, the members of the Bristol Township Police Department, work tirelessly to provide quality, professional policing service for all members of our community. We take pride that our police department is professionally accredited, and that we have established policy reinforced through extensive training which prohibits the precision actions that arc reflected in the horrible video of Mr. Floyd’s death.
We also acknowledge and affirm that we are expected to perform our duties in accordance to our established policy and that we will be held accountable for failure to do so. Our hope is that we and our community will come together to heal the wounds, nurture a culture of open communication and make Bristol Township a better and safer place to live and work.
