Bucks County Technical High School showed off to a member of Gov. Tom Wolf’s cabinet last Thursday morning.

Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry Secretary Jerry Oleksiak embarked on a statewide tour of technical high schools to examine training and apprenticeship programs with a kickoff at the Bristol Township school that serves students from the Bensalem, Bristol Borough, Bristol Township, Morrisville, Neshaminy and Pennsbury school districts.
Dr. Leon Poeske, the administrative director for the technical school, led Oleksiak’s tour of the facility.
In addition to Oleksiak, Bucks County Workforce Development Board Director Billie Barnes, Deputy Director Workforce Development Board Dianna Kralle, staff from State Rep. Tina Davis, State Sen. Steve Santarsiero, State Sen. Tommy Tomlinson, and John Ruszin, president of the technical high school’s joint board and a Bristol Borough School Board member, were in attendance.

Among the sections of the school checked out, Oleksiak visited the nursing lab, learned about machining, visited an electronics lab, and explored the sustainable energy garden, which was nearly entirely built by students. Additionally, Oleksiak heard from technical high school administrators about ways their relationship with the state could be improved.
Technical high schools have come into focus as employers look to hire highly-skilled workers for unfilled jobs.
