After Chase, Man Fights Officers, Cops Say

A dangerous police chase ended late Sunday afternoon with an arrest.

A Falls Township police officer was performing a patrol check on Hillside Lane when a silver car barreled past around 4:40 p.m. The car made various dangerous moves, headed onto Tyburn Road, and eventually onto Trenton Road, police said.

The pursuing officer activated her patrol vehicle’s lights and siren and the chase started. It reached speeds about 20 mph over the posted speed limit along Trenton Road, police said.

The car then turned in the exit of Regeneration Church on Trenton Road by Vermilion Way, and the driver put his vehicle into reverse, barely missing a patrol vehicle. The fleeing car then drove on the grass of the church and back onto Trenton Road, police said.

A second officer witnessed the chase and joined the pursuit.

The silver car crossed into the oncoming lane of travel and through traffic signals on Trenton Road before zooming through the parking lot of the 7-Eleven at Trenton Road and North Oxford Valley Road, police said.

The fleeing vehicle left the 7-Eleven lot and crossed the four lanes of North Oxford Valley Road and finally stopped a short distance away outside the Oxford Valley Golf Course, police said.

The driver – identified at Nicholas Tummarello, who recently turned 30, of Middletown’s Levittown section – was fighting with officers as he was being arrest. He did not “listen to orders” and was taken into custody with the assistance of four officers, police said.

Police said Tummarello was revealed to have an active warrant at the time of the chase.

An officer suffered a minor injury that was treated.

Tummarello was arraigned before on-call District Judge Corryn Kronnagel at 8 p.m. on charges of fleeing or attempting to elude an officer, reckless endangerment, simple assault, reckless driving, and speeding. He was sent to the Bucks County Correctional Facility on 10 percent of $100,000 bail.
