Bristol Township Council has waived land development so the Lower Bucks Family YMCA can move forward with renovating their facility.
Last Thursday evening, land development was waived for the nonprofit’s plan to renovate and reconfigure their facility along South Oxford Valley Road in Bristol Township’s Fairless Hills section.

The YMCA of Bucks County plans to take down a portion of the 52,785-square-foot building that sits along the parking lot, while adding a 2,700-square-foot addition to the corner near South Queen Ann Drive and Drexel Road and a 1,940-square-foot addition on the front entrance of the building. The final total size of the building would be 46,447 square feet.
Officials representing the nonprofit told Council the parking lot would be updated to be safer, a new stormwater management system would be installed, and the overall size of the facility would be slightly smaller but more efficient.
“It’s great to see they being upgrading and staying in Bristol Township,” Council President Craig Bowen said.

In October, the YMCA of Bucks County announced the plan to renovate the building and plans fell through for a new location.
The YMCA raising $20 million to $15 million for capital improvement upgrades mainly in Fairless Hills and an overhaul at their Doylestown branch and $5 million to support programs for the community. Much of the money had been raised as of fall.

Zane Moore, CEO of the YMCA of Bucks County, a merged organization formed in 2018 by the Lower Bucks Family YMCA, Central Bucks YMCA, and Upper Bucks YMCA, said construction on the upgrades in Bristol Township would begin by spring 2020.
The Bristol Township YMCA location serves about 6,000 members.
