Three people were injured in a fiery crash on I-95 Friday night.

The crash happened on the southbound lanes around 8:40 p.m. when a tanker truck containing 4,000 gallons of heating oil and an SUV collided. The tanker truck’s contents ended up spreading across the highway, down the embankment, and partly onto Route 13 below before catching on fire, according to state police and Fox 29.

The extent of the injuries to the three people were not released.

The incident happened about a quarter-mile from Bristol Township’s Croydon section and drew firefighters from around the area. A specialized foam trailer from the Penndel Fire Company was used along with hazmat trucks from Dow’s Bristol campus.

Helicopter footage from Fox 29 showed the wreckage of the tanker truck hanging off the southbound I-95 bridge over Route 13. The SUV can be seen smashed up against it. Both vehicles were burnt to a crisp.

Bensalem Fire Rescue posted on social media that environmental impacts from the crash were being mitigated Saturday.

Both lanes of the highway were shutdown and the northbound lanes reopened by around 11 p.m. Friday, the Bucks County Courier Times reported.

Route 13 reopened late Friday morning.

Troopers continued to investigate the crash as of Saturday.

The fire call first came out at around 8:50 p.m. Friday night between the Street Road exit in Bensalem and the Bristol exit.
