William Penn Fire Company Deputy Chief Jim Bampfield said he was among the first to arrive and found flames shooting from the rear of the Levitt-built home.

The four adult residents escaped without injury.

Bampfield said firefighters launched an “aggressive attack” and controlled the blaze in about 30 minutes.

The home’s smoke detectors worked and one of the residents was jolted awake by the alarm. After they exited their bedroom, they found fire in the living room. The rest of the residents were alerted and all made it outside, Bampfield said.

The Middletown Fire Marshal’s Office was investigating the cause of the blaze.

Crews from the Langhorne-Middletown, Levittown No. 2, Parkland, Penndel, Newport, and Newportville fire companies assisted William Penn crews.
