The students were in “very serious condition” at St. Mary Medical Center following the crash, police Chief Joseph Bartorilla said.

The chief said the driver of the striking vehicle stayed at the scene.

Newtown-Langhorne Road was closed into the night as the crash was under investigation.

The crosswalk is marked and sits on the crest of the hill along the busy roadway that connects to the Newtown Bypass. There are flashing warning lights and orange flags for students to carry as they cross the road.
