New Principal Hired For Mill Creek Elementary School

Provided by the Bristol Township School District: 

Bristol Township School District is appointing Dr. Sharon Vitella as principal of Mill Creek Elementary School, starting January 2, 2020. Vitella will replace Terrie Giardine who came out of retirement to serve as interim principal since the beginning of the school year.

Before joining Bristol Township School District, Vitella was the assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction at Mount Laurel (New Jersey) School District for 13 years. This past spring, she also served as acting principal for one of the elementary schools. 

“I realized how much I missed working with students and teachers, so I am thrilled to have the opportunity to join the Mill Creek community,” said Vitella. 

Vitella pursued a number of post graduate degrees including master degrees in teaching and educational administration, and a doctor of education received from Nova Southeastern University. 

For a number of years, she stayed at home to raise her children while being an active member in the PTO and also served as president. This experience helped her appreciate the partnership between schools and families. 

Vitella has also served as a language arts and ESL teacher, high school assistant principal and middle school principal. 

“I love being part of a learning organization – interacting with others, hearing other opinions, putting theory into practice – I love it all!,” she said. “Entering a new learning organization will be an amazing opportunity for me to continue my own growth and learning as well as share what I have learned along the way.”

Bristol Township School District is also right in Vitella’s backyard, which will make the transition to BTSD an easy one.

“Bristol Township School District is a wonderfully diverse community which provides rich opportunities to learn from others,” she said. “I look forward to getting to know everyone and becoming a part of the Mill Creek community.”

The District is also eager to collaborate with Vitella and ease her transition to Mill Creek.

“With Dr. Vitella’s experience and passion for education, BTSD is excited to work with her and welcome the new ideas she will bring to the District,” said Superintendent Dr.  Melanie Gehrens.
