Bensalem Man Arrested After Levittown-Area Police Chase

A 30-year-old Bensalem man was charged after a wild police chase that made its way through the Levittown area.

Bristol Township police were called to the 300 block of Goldenridge Drive in Levittown around 8:30 a.m. Sunday for a report of a blue sedan with a man “acting strangely” and climbing on the vehicle.

While responding, two officers found the vehicle on the grassy shoulder along Edgely Road near Goldenridge Drive. Sean Joseph Cook was found to be “acting erratically” and was jumping around the vehicle, which had a broken out rear windshield and backwards license plate, police said.

An officer wrote in court papers that she saw the man placing his hands over his face and head before giving the middle finger to law enforcement, police said.

“From my training and experience, it appeared that the defendant was under the influence of a controlled substance from his erratic behavior,” the officer wrote.

Despite being asked not to go, Cook drove off and officers began a pursuit due to concerns about the ability of Cook to drive in safe manner, police said.

Law enforcement officials noted that Cook was putting other drivers at risk, swerving, giving officers the middle finger, hitting the speed of 105 mph on Route 13, and placing his hands and feet out of various broken windows on the vehicle as he drove.

Cook turned the car around and looked at officers following him on occasions, police said.

During the chase, Tullytown Borough police were able to lay a spike strip at Route 13 and Fallsington Avenue. The strip deflated tires but did not stop Cook, who kept driving with three flats, police said.

Shortly after, the tires were flat and one had fallen off. Cook then left his car and ran, police said.

Officers chased Cook on foot for two minutes until he stopped and listened to authorities, police said.

Cook was taken to the police station and continued to display erratic behavior. Later, he calmed down and cooperated with officers, police said.

According to court papers, Cook’s chase took police through Bristol Township, Bristol Borough, and Tullytown. He failed to stop at eight red lights and blew past three stop signs.

Cook was arraigned Sunday afternoon before on-call District Judge Daniel Finello on charges of fleeing an officer, resisting arrest, reckless endangerment, DUI, and a number of summary traffic offenses. He was remanded to county lockup on 10 percent of $50,000.
