The blaze was reported just before 10:10 p.m. when fire alarms when off. Residents exiting the building reported smoke in the hallway and dialed 9-1-1. While fire crews were en route, the call was upgraded to a working apartment fire on the first floor of the three-level complex.

Firefighters were able to contain the blaze to a single apartment in the 700 building. Edgely Fire Company Chief Brian Cirard said it took only 10 minutes for the fire to be placed under control.
