About 50 Middletown residents made their voices heard as the township looks to create the new comprehensive plan.

The township’s public event Tuesday evening took input from stakeholders and residents on sustainability, transportation, recreation, housing, and redevelopment. Some of the commonly heard conversations between attendees and planning experts representing the township were about congestion, redevelopment of high-volume areas like the Oxford Valley Mall area, and ways to keep open space.

Planners took comment cards from residents that featured their ideas. On one board, residents were able to put stickers to mark where they would like to see redevelopment in the 45,000-resident community.

Forty-six year resident Michele Fisher said she came out to voice support to save the Stone Meadows Farm property and voice concern over the volume of traffic that has increased on local roads. She also had worries about the condition of some roads and potholes in the township.

“We pay high enough taxes out here,” she said, noting the conditions on local roadways.

Residents Greg and Mary Dennison, who have lived in the township for 32 years, said they were interested in seeing a redevelopment along East Lincoln Highway and the Oxford Valley Mall area. Greg Dennison called the intersection of Woodbourne Road and East Lincoln Highway an “eyesore” and hoped for redevelopment, while him and his wife both voiced concerns about how the intersection at Lincoln Highway and Oxford Valley Road is laid out.

Jeff Miller, a resident who has been involved in the effort to save Stone Meadows Farm, said he was focused on sustainability in the township.

The township plans to hold another public session on the new comprehensive plan later this year.

Middletown is also soliciting photos from residents showing their favorite parts of the community or areas that they think can be improved. The photos will be entered in a contest and the best one will win a prize bundle that includes Six Flags and Sesame Place passes, gift certificates to local restaurants, and movie tickets. To enter, send photos and comments to CompPlan@middletownbucks.org.

Assistant to the Township Manager Scott Sadowsky said the plan should be ready by spring 2020.
