The sale of three vacant Bristol Township elementary schools has been delayed.

The school board voted Wednesday to extend the due diligence period to August 21 due to health issues that have struck developer John McGrath whose firm has a $1.2 million agreement to buy the 17.5-acre John Fitch Elementary School on Greenbrook Drive, 10-acre Abraham Lincoln Elementary School on Plumtree Drive, and 17-acre George Washington Elementary School on Crabtree Drive.

While McGrath is still involved with the sale, his team has approached the district to extend the period.

District solicitor David Truelove said the sale is still on track.

A Bucks County judge in March approved the sale of the three closed schools to McGrath Homes.

McGrath has told district officials his firm is planning a 55-plus development with a mix of flats and apartments on the school sites.

While the sale has been delayed, contractors have been hard at work abating materials and demolishing the former Maple Shade and Lafayette elementary schools, which both remain for sale.

The district’s nine elementary schools closed and were replaced with three larger schools a few years ago.
