UPDATE: Typo Means Lower Taxes This Year For Pennsbury Residents

To balance the upcoming 2019-2020 school year budget, the Pennsbury School Board voted to increase taxes.

The school board voted Thursday evening to raise taxes 2.11 percent to close a $3,163,660 gap between $213,555,702 in revenues and $216,719,362 in expenditures.

The tax increase would cost the average district homeowner $113.38 next year.

The district will grow spending on contractual obligations for salary and benefits, new IT equipment, facility upgrades, $50,000 on transportation, and $300,000 for additional curriculum.

Savings were realized through energy savings, insurance costs, decreasing substitute costs, and new revenue from a aquatics program. A higher than expected number of resignations also helped save funds.

The administration worked over the past months to see where savings could be realized for the upcoming school year, Superintendent Dr. William Gretzula said.
