Local businesses worked with first responders to fix a problem caused by flash flooding Wednesday night.

A massive pipe from Old Castle Concrete was used to surround an inlet for a wet well in a low-lying area along State Road near River Road in Croydon. The pipe blocked additional flood water from entering and overwhelming the wet well, according to Bristol Township Emergency Manager Kevin Dippolito, who also serves as the fire marshal.

Firefighters from the Bristol Consolidated, Croydon, and Third District fire companies spent hours working to pump away flood waters that had accumulated near the wet well. The worry, according to Dippolito, was that the excess water going into the wet well was overworking the pumps at the sewer station nearby.

Rob’s Towing came in to help move the massive pipe from Old Castle into place around the wet well inlet.

State Road between River Road and Orchard Avenue was closed Wednesday night by fire police as crews worked to stem the flooding, but it has since reopened.
