A Warminster woman will serve years in state prison for causing a DUI crash that killed her 8-year-old son and injuring a Levittown couple.
Kelly Anne Colbridge, 38, was sentenced last Thursday before Bucks County Judge Gary Gilman to four and a half to 15 years in a state correctional institution. She also was ordered to perform community service with Mothers Against Drunk Driving or a similar organization once paroled and make $37,484.75 restitution, according to the Bucks County District Attorney’s office.

Colbridge pleaded guilty in January to a number of charges including homicide by vehicle, DUI, and related offenses.
At the time of the April 7, 2018 crash on Street Road in Upper Southampton, Colbridge was intoxicated on a mix of alcohol and medication when her Dodge sedan crossed into the opposite lanes of traffic and head-on struck a Kia SUV with a Levittown couple headed home after a gathering.

Colbridge’s 8-year-old son Daniel T. Klaus suffered life-threatening injuries. The boy was rushed to Abington Hospital in Montgomery County before being flown to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and passing away due to injuries relating to his head separating from his spine.

The injured couple from Levittown suffered extensive and long-lasting injuries. In addition, they have more than $200,000 in medical bills.
Blood test results for Colbridge showed that the Warminster woman’s blood alcohol content was .168 percent, which is higher than the .08 legal limit. She also had insomnia treatment medication Clonazepam and muscle relaxer Meprobamate in her body, court papers stated.

Investigators said they found Suboxone strips, 10 loose Gabapentin pills, and six Clonazepam pills in Colbridge’s purse.
“The defendant had all the choices in this case,” said Deputy District Attorney Robert James. “She could have chosen to not mix alcohol with central nervous system depressants and anxiety meds, but she did. She could have made the choice to have someone else drive her and her son home, but she did not.”
James noted in court that Colbridge has not taken full responsibility for the crash, even speaking “disparagingly” of the injured Levittown couple in recorded prison phone calls, the district attorney’s office said.
