According to officials, the Council hopes that the competitively priced proposal from Waste Management would allow them to maintain the trash fee at $317 for another year or two. The trash fee was reduced in 2014 from $337 to $317 and has remained stable for the past five years.
“With Waste Management located in the Township, they were able to offer a competitive bid that was nearly $6.5 million below the other two bids submitted,” Township Manager Bill McCauley said in his official report. “This award increased trash and recycling pickup to several highly used parks in the Township and increased the yard waste program by two weeks as opposed to the expiring contract.”
โWe received concerns over the last year of Waste Managementโs performance and I advised them they needed to be present at the Council meeting and address the residentsโ concerns,โ said Council President Craig Bowen. “Performance penalties were added to the new contract with assessed liquidated damages, essentially fines. We want there to be no issues for our residents, but also have recourse, if there are.”

Steve Miller from Waste Management was present at the Council meeting and advised he has over 20 plus years and told officials that he was brought to the Bristol location to assist in clearing up any issues and providing the best service for the Township and its residents. He expressed his confidence that the service delivery problems would be eliminated with the new contract.
The township switched to Waste Management fromย Republic in 2014 and reduced trash pickup from twice a week to once. The switch was lauded as a way for Bristol Township to save money and increase its recycling rate by distributing 95-gallon trash carts and 65-gallon recycling containers at no cost.
