A 79-year-old man is accused of firing a shot during a dispute with his wife.

Pennsylvania State Police were called to the 200 block of West Park Avenue in Langhorne Manor Borough around 12:12 a.m. Sunday morning for a report of gunfire inside a home. They arrived to find what appeared to be small caliber bullet damage in the master bathroom and an unloaded Ruger pistol along with a Smith and Weston 22 caliber revolver with four live rounds and one spent cartridge, according to court papers.

Ronald Elmur Kinest, who turns 80 next week, was taken into custody and spoke with troopers. According to state police, he said he was upset at his wife and wanted to scare her by pointing a loaded gun. He texted his wife to return home and asked her to come upstairs.

Once upstairs, according to Kinest’s statement to troopers, he pointed the unloaded Ruger at her and pulled the trigger. At that time, Kinest’s wife attempted to grab the gun and struck her over the head with the weapon. He then said he pulled the Smith and Weston revolver as she attempted to get away and fired one round.

Kinest’s wife spoke with troopers and said she returned home after getting a text from her husband, relating that he stood at the top of the steps and said he was having a heart attack. She relayed that Kinest pointed a gun at her and she attempted to wrestle the firearm away before he struck her with it, according to court papers.

Kinest’s wife told troopers she ran into the bathroom and heard a loud pop and her grandson ended up wrestling the firearm away from her husband.

Kinest, who has addresses in Langhorne Manor and Virginia, was arraigned Sunday afternoon on charges of aggravated assault, terroristic threats, simple assault, reckless endangerment, disorderly conduct, and harassment. He was released Tuesday from lockup after posting 10 percent of $100,000 bail.
