The state’s everyday superheroes are being honored with a half-ton butter sculpture at the Pennsylvania Farm Show in Harrisburg.

The butter sculpture, which is in a refrigerated case, depicts as a soldier, a doctor, a firefighter, and a dairy farmer all wearing superhero capes. It was unveiled on Thursday with Gov. Tom Wolf in attendance.

“This year’s Farm Show theme is Inspiring Pennsylvania’s Story, and the butter sculpture has for many years been a part of that story,” said Pennsylvania Secretary of Agriculture Russell Redding. “No matter which shape it takes on from year to year, it’s always a celebration of our state’s dairy industry, and of the rich history of the entire agriculture industry.”

Sculptors Jim Victor and Marie Pelton, both of Montgomery County, began work on the large butter effigy in mid-December. The butter was donated by Land O’ Lakes in Carlisle, Cumberland County.

The Pennsylvania Farm Show is the largest indoor agricultural event in the country and runs from Saturday, January 5 until Saturday, January 12.

After the Farm Show ends, the half-ton butter sculpture will be moved to the Reinford Farm in Juniata County to be converted into renewable energy in the farm’s methane digester, officials said.
