A Bristol Borough man has been accused of opening fire as a police officers attempted to detain him on Saturday night.

Bensalem officers said they were called to Herringbone Lane around 9:22 p.m. for a suspicious subject who left a 2015 Chrysler 200 in the neighborhood and walked away.

A short time later, according to court papers, an officer found Frederick A. Schruby, 38, at Route 13 and Station Avenue.

As officers arrived, Schruby refused to listen to law enforcement and placed his hands in his pockets, refusing to remove them, police said.

As officers surrounded Schruby, he pulled out a black Taurus 9mm handgun and fired several shots with lawmen just feet away. One officer was holding him from behind while another grabbed the handgun as more shots were fired, police said.

Schruby was brought to the ground and he continued firing until the gun was taken away, police said.

Officers noted in court papers that Schruby refused to be detained and a Taser was used to gain control of him.

No officers were shot, and a total of six rounds were fired.

A source said multiple police departments responded to the shooting scene and the area was blocked off for the investigation.

The gunfire struck the tire of a police car and deflated it.
