A gun range is planned for a Levittown shopping center.

Before the Middletown Zoning Hearing Board, businessman Nicholas Lostracco gave an overview of his plan to put a multi-lane shooting range in a long-vacant 6,900-square-foot retail store next to Tony’s Old Fashion Meat Store in the Newport Plaza Shopping Center in the 4500 block of New Falls Road.

Lostracco, who is a co-owner of the shopping center, said the spot has been vacant for years and competition between area shopping centers has made it hard to find a tenant, despite many attempts.

The indoor gun range would contain heavy soundproofing to keep the sound of gunfire in the space. There would be safety devices to make sure the facility is safe from stray bullets escaping. It would be designed for customers of varying shooting levels and would have moving targets, Lostracco said.

Several people raised their hands in favor of the plan, which was approved by the Middletown Zoning Hearing Board.
