Police, ATF Called For Investigation Of Blaze At Muslim Association Building

UPDATE: Fire At Muslim Association Building Ruled An Arson

A fire damaged the United American Muslim Association building in Bristol Township’s Levittown section Monday, and the cause remained under investigation as of evening.

Crews responded to the former Immaculate Conception B.V.M. Catholic Church property on Emilie Road around 4:40 p.m. and arrived to find a blaze. Firefighters went to work and appeared to concentrate their efforts on the second floor of the facility. Charred paper towel rolls and other toiletries were thrown out windows and sprayed down on the ground.

Fire officials said they were waiting to release additional information on the incident.

Fire Marshal Kevin Dippolito said he was investigating the cause and called for assistance from Bristol Township police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.

A representative of the local branch of the United American Muslim Association told LevittownNow.com the building was empty at the time of the fire and awaiting redevelopment by the religious group. He said he did not yet have any details on the fire.

The building was purchased by the United American Muslim Association from the Catholic Church for more than $1.7 million in 2016. At the time, the United American Muslim Association was reported to be the parent organization of the Turkish American Muslim Cultural Association. Bristol Township is home to a healthy and growing Muslim population with many of the local community have connections to Turkey.
