A longtime staple of the area business community raised more than $1,500 for emergency responders and military organizations.

Sandy’s Beef and Ale in Middletown raised $607 for theย Bucks County Heroes Scholarship Fund, which provides scholarships to children of police officers, firefighters, corrections officers, rescue squad and emergency service personnel who are killed or permanently disabled in the line of duty. The business also raised $500 for theย Middletown Police Benevolent Association and the rest for theย theย Jesse Solby American Legion Post #148 and other nonprofits.

The money was raised as part of the Summer of Thanks Program that collects a percentage of food sales on Mondays for local charities.

โ€œWe wanted to do something to give back and say thanks. We are not a big company, but we wanted to try and help make a difference,โ€ said Dave Guindon, the owner ofย Sandy’s Beef and Ale.

Jamieโ€™s Grilling Company also donated a portion of its proceeds.

โ€œWe look at this as a great opportunity to partner with Sandyโ€™s in the Summer of Thanks to say thanks to those who serve,โ€ said Jamieโ€™s Grilling Company owner Jamie McLennan.

โ€œWe are always working to aid our volunteer first responder organizations at the state level, but itโ€™s also important for these groups to receive support from local businesses and families,โ€ said State Rep. Frank Farry, who also serves as a fire chief. โ€œItโ€™s clear Sandyโ€™s Beef and Ale truly cares about our community and wants to give back to those who risk their lives to protect it.โ€
