A driver avoided what could have been sudden death Saturday night in Bristol Township.
A portion of a fallen tree impaled a 2002 Hyundai sedan driven by a 20-year-old Bensalem man Saturday night. The large tree smashed through the windshield and came out the rear window, police said.

Luckily for the driver, the tree went through the passenger-side of his vehicle, avoiding him by only a foot or two. No passengers were in the car at the time. Pictures of the damage show the size of the felled tree that went through the sedan.
Police said they were dispatched to the 4000 block of Newportville Road around 8:40 p.m. for a fallen tree partly blocking the northbound lane. Before they arrived, someone cut the tree in a suspected attempt to clear the road, leaving behind the large piece of the tree that pierced the car a short time later.
