The summertime program is open to all students entering ninth- through 12th-grade. In addition, Class of 2018 high school graduates who are interested in law enforcement or the military can apply.

The Youth Police Academy teaches teenagers about the Pennsylvania crimes code, crime scene investigation, patrol scenarios, use of force, and physical training. Parents will be required to meet with organizers to review the curriculum.

“The student has to go to school and not be a discipline program,” Officer John Yeager said.

This year, the Youth Police Academy has received a total of $6,600 in community support.

A 5K and one-mile walk in Fallsington was put on by Extreme Fitness Personal Training owners Marty McLoughlin and his wife, Linda Stout. The couple were able to present Yeager with a $5,600 check made up of the proceeds of the race at the most recent Board of Supervisors meeting.

For next year, McLoughlin is working to retool the event in ways that can contribute even more to the program.

Supervisor Jeff Boraski said Falls Township’s recent Touch-A-Truck event raised $1,000 for the Youth Police Academy.

Yeager called the partnership between Extreme Fitness Personal Training and others helping raise funds for the Youth Police Academy “awesome.”
