UPDATE: Attempted Carjacking Defendant Also Behind Several Thefts, Cops Say

Police confirmed to LevittownNow.com that the male suspect was taken into custody early Wednesday evening not far from the scene of the crime.

Investigators received a tip that the suspect was at a home in the Birch Valley neighborhood in Levittown. As officers were at the home, the suspect arrived and fled into the creek in the greenbelt, Lt. Hank Ward said.

Police let their K-9 dog out and the suspect ended up being captured, Ward said.

The suspect was taken to a nearby hospital for some injuries reportedly sustained during his apprehension.

Ward said police plan to charge the suspect early Thursday morning.

A man allegedly attempted to steal a small SUV with a young child inside at a gas station Wednesday morning.

Falls Township police said a man – believed to be in his early 20s – entered a vehicle while the owner was pumping gas at the Sunoco in the 8000 block New Falls Road around 10:20 a.m. and drove the SUV forward a short distance. At that point, the suspect exited and fled the area of foot.

The vehicle owner’s young child was buckled in a car seat in the rear of the SUV, police said.

Surveillance images released by police appear to show the vehicle owner notice what was happening and open passenger-side door.
