UPDATED: 11:20 p.m., Wednesday:

Pennsbury School District Superintendent Dr. William Gretzula sent the following message to parents as a follow up:

This message is sent to families of PHS students to reassure the community that the social media post referenced earlier this evening was not a direct threat to harm any students or staff. It was a threat to harm one’s self. The police have confirmed that the student will not be present in school for the immediate future. Please recognize the need to protect the student’s right to privacy and confidentiality.

Administration and staff are proud of community members who have heeded prior advice that if you “see something, say something.” I can also report that the family has been fully cooperative with authorities, and the police are equally proud of the collaboration between the school and police departments in responding to this concern.

School will be open tomorrow and it will be a safe environment for teaching, learning and testing. Police presence on the PHS campuses tomorrow morning is merely a precaution to reassure the community that the school is safe and does not reflect a belief that any incident will take place.

“We can assure the community that Pennsbury High School will be safe and we are planning a normal opening tomorrow. Keystone exams will still take place as scheduled,” the message to parents stated.

The district thanked the community for “expressing concern about this matter.”
