Falls Township police Chief William Wilcox is cautioning parents to stop buying toy guns that resemble the real thing.
Wilcox noted in a report to the Falls Township Board of Supervisors that he is seeing more instances of kids sharing images of themselves on Snapchat and other social media platforms holding toy guns. For many, it’s hard to tell the difference between the lookalike toy guns and actual weapons, he said.

Except for air pistols, toy guns come equipped with an orange cap, said Wilcox. Noting that sometimes people remove the cap or paint them to make them look more realistic, which can be dangerous for law enforcement and others who might mistake it for a weapon.
Wilcox’s message is just one of Falls Township officials’ gun safety measures. With a goal of keeping the community safe, the Supervisors have put forth efforts to remove unwanted or unneeded guns from residents’ homes as part of a gun takeback program. The effort began several years ago and has yielded 60 guns to date.
The Falls Township Police Department is available to collect unwanted guns. Simply call the police non-emergency phone number at 215-949-9100 and an officer will stop by your residence to pick up the gun.
