Man Sentenced For Fatal Levittown Crash That Killed ‘Hippie Bill’

A Levittown man who was speeding while driving intoxicated leading up to a 2016 fatal crash will spend time in state prison.

Samuel M. Dick, 22, was sentenced to three to six years in state prison by Bucks County Judge Jeffreyย Trauger as part of a recommended plea deal betweenย Deputy District Attorney David Keightly Jr. and defense attorney Thomas Joachim, according to the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office.

Dick pleaded guilty to homicide by vehicle, DUI, and several related offenses.

The 22 year old was speeding at 59 to 65 mph in his Acura while drunk late at night on June 27, 2016. He struck 64-year-old Bensalem resident William “Hippie Bill” Hogan’sย Cadillac El Dorado as the man was turning left fromย Frosty Hollow Road onto Upper Orchard Drive in Middletown’s Levittown section. The crash happened in a 30-mph zone and caused both vehicles to slide into a utility pole.

Hogan was known by neighbors as a caring man who was a bit eccentric.

โ€œHe turned his house into several small, furnished apartments and took in homeless people, drug-addicted people, anyone who needed help,โ€ said Dana Millard, a young stay-at-home mother of two. โ€œHe got them jobs, drove them to rehab, made them doctorsโ€™ appointments. Bill gave, gave and gave.โ€

โ€œI know Bill would want me to forgive you,โ€ she said, turning to look at Dick. โ€œSo here I am. I forgive you.โ€

Dick told the judge he had no recollection of the fatal crash and had been in counseling since.

โ€œIn honor of William Hogan, Iโ€™ve tried to live a more responsible life,โ€ Dick said.

โ€œI trust that you believe that there is redemption โ€ฆ You have [most] of your life in front of you. I donโ€™t think you will ever forget this. But it could be a motivational factor on your behalf to try to help others avoid the type of mistake you made,” the judge said to him.

Dick also admitted to two offenses related to resisting arrest after being involved in an altercation at home while intoxicated and another relating to providing false information to police after a traffic stop. The judge sentenced him toย one-year concurrent probationary sentences for both cases.
