January Unemployment Rate Unchanged Month-Over-Month

The Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry released their January employment statics recently.

The statewide unemployment rate of 4.8 percent remained unchanged from December. It was also higher than the national rate of 4.1 percent for January, according to federal data.

The state Department of Labor and Industry data showed the civilian labor force was down 4,000 since December to 6,414,000.

Unemployment in the state remained steady at 310,000. Over the year, employment and unemployment were down by 4,000 and 28,000, respectively.

The largest supersector in the state over the past year has been education and health services. The largest drop over the past year was down 2,700.
