The Thursday snow made way to strong winds that will coincide with lingering dangerous cold that has gripped the region since the final days of last year.

The National Weather Service predicted temperatures in the teens for daytime highs and single digits in the overnights through the weekend. Forecasters warned that very cold wind chills are expected and could range from 0 to negative 15 degrees.

In addition to the cold weather, strong winds will blow Friday and gusts could be as high as 45 mph.

Forecasters warned that blowing snow could cause problems on roads, some of which are already snow covered. On New Falls Road in Bristol Township and Newtown-Langhorne Road near the George School in Middletown, blowing snow was already beginning to cover the freshly cleared roadway.

“Prolonged period of below freezing continues increasing the risk of frozen pipes and other damage to infrastructure,” forecasters said in a briefing Thursday evening.

The cold weather comes after days of already below-freezing temperatures and several inches of snow that fell Thursday. The National Weather Service reported a spotter in Newtown recorded 4 inches. In addition, a LevittownNow.com reader in Bristol said they measured about 5 inches and another in Falls Township recorded just under 4.5 inches.

The weather has forced all the Levittown-area public schools to close for Friday.

The first chance of above-freezing temperatures could come as soon as Monday.
