Bucks County’s efforts to fight the heroin epidemic is manifesting in another community event on this upcoming weekend.

The Push Out the Pusher Food Truck Event, which will take place at the Falls Township Community Park off Mill Creek Road, will feature live music, a disc jockey, fire and police demonstrations, vendors and food trucks. The event runs from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. this Saturday and will benefit the “Push Out the Pusher” campaign that officially launched in June of this year.

“Everything we do is to help put the word out,” explained State Rep. John Galloway, a Democrat from Falls who has worked to get the program off the ground.

The campaign, which is put on by the Bucks County Crime Stoppers nonprofit, has already been fruitful. Galloway explained that, according to Bucks County District Attorney Matt Weintraub, there have been nearly 1,000 tips given since the campaign launched in June.

“[There have been] hundreds and hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of tips,” Galloway said. “Eventually they are going to lead to arrests and then convictions.”

The program incentivizes community involvement in fighting the opioid epidemic. Anyone can call 215-345-DRUG (3784) to report suspicious drug activity. If the tip leads to a conviction, a reward will be disbursed to the person who provided the tip.

All of the money raised at the event will go towards the nonprofit for financing the campaign against opioids. More fundraisers, like a designer bag bingo, are already in the early stages of being planned, Galloway said.
