Work is well underway on construction of a 3,000-square-foot bank branch along South Oxford Valley Road in Bristol Township’s Fairless Hills section.
Philadelphia-based Republic Bank is constructing the new branch at the one-acre lot that was the site of a former playground. The bank will feature a unique design, entrances on South Oxford Valley Road and Queen Ann Drive, three drive-thru lanes and 26 parking spaces, according to plans approved by the Bristol Township Council in early 2017.

The plans include landscaping and plants inside a 30-foot buffer zone that separates the bank from homes on South Queen Anne and Saxony drives.
In a statement this week, the bank said it plans to open the new branch before the end of the year.

Republic Bank was formed in 1988 and has taken on a similar approach to the former Commerce Bank chain that was sold to TD Bank in the last decade. The bank will be open 361 days per year and will have extended hours. The Philadelphia Business Journal reported in 2014 that the founder of Commerce Bank invested in Republic Bank and was on its board.

When the bank received approval in January, there were some concerns from the public about traffic in the already busy area. With possible redevelopment of the nearby Lower Bucks YMCA on the horizon, township officials said they would take a closer look at the issue in the future.
Currently, Republic Bank has 22 locations.
