It has been a while but the Oxford Valley Road Bridge that crosses Route 1 finally has all its lanes open.
While some “ancillary work” remains on the project, the bulk of the construction to rehabilitate the 167-foot-long span that sits in Falls, Lower Makefield and Middletown townships has been completed, PennDOT officials said.

Work to repair and rehabilitate the three-span bridge that carries 31,000 vehicle per day began in November 2016 and was originally slated to be finished by June. Loftus Construction Inc. of Cinnaminson, New Jersey, replaced two steel beams; straightened four steel beams with the use of high heat; performed full-depth concrete bridge deck repairs; placed a new latex concrete overlay on the bridge deck; and repaired concrete support abutments.
The bridge is no longer considered “structurally deficient.”

PennDOT officials said the Route 1 will close at the interchange from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday, August 20 through Friday, August 25 for shielding removal and painting and cleanup. Drivers will be forced to exit Route 1 at Oxford Valley Road and will re-enter at the entrance ramps.

Efforts to fix and rehabilitate the bridge began after a truck carrying lifts struck four steel I-beams while traveling on Route 1 in June 2015. An inspection by PennDOT engineers deemed the bridge to be in need of repairs.
The work was paid for as part of an $11.7 million project to upgrade several bridges in the Philadelphia region.
