St. Ann’s Carnival Brings Good Food & Good Times to Bristol Borough

While the rides and games at the annual St. Ann’s Carnival are good fun, the real attraction, according to fairgoers, is the food.

The biggest seller and main attraction at the fair, according to Ralph DiGuiseppe II, Bristol Borough council president and head organizer of the annual summer event, are pizza frittas. The frittas are small, personal pizza-sized pieces of flattened dough. The dough is fried and powdered with granulated sugar or sauce and cheese are put on top.

As far as DiGuiseppe knows, the carnival is the only place where people can really buy frittas in the area.

Each night, the carnival sells between four and 500 of the treats, DiGuiseppe said.

After the frittas, fair goers can sink their teeth into homemade meatballs and sausages. Sausages can be ordered with with peppers and onions and meatballs come with sauce or as meatball parmesan sandwiches.

Besides the homemade goodies, patrons can also eat clams, which are a big seller at the fair, DiGuiseppe said.

The fair also has standard items for more picky eaters. These include french fries, chicken nugget, hot dogs and soft pretzels.

The St. Ann’s Carnival runs through Saturday, August 19 and is open from 6 through 10 p.m. each night. The festivities take place at 357 Dorrance Street.
