Tall ship Gazela Primeiro is expected to sail up the Delaware River to the new Bristol Borough wharf for this year’s Historic Bristol Borough Day.
The ship, which is the oldest oldest square rigger currently sailing in North America, has had its home in Philadelphia since the 1970s and travels up and down the East Coast.ย According to a Baltimore sailing website, the ship was constructed in 1901 in Portugal and served as a fishing ship.

Assuming the agreement, which was approved at the July 10 council meeting, the ship will be in town from October 20 through October 21. The agreement is a tri-party agreement between the borough, the Bristol Historical and Cultural Foundation and the Gazelas Premeiro.
The annualย Historic Bristol Borough Day will take place on Saturday, October 21 throughout the waterfront town.
The council also approved other motions during the agenda meeting, including various renovations to the wharf and the purchase by the borough of 1028 Chestnut Street for $55,000.
