Maryann Wagner has been appointed as the newest council member for Bristol Township.
Wagner was appointed at the last township meeting by the majority of the council to fill the seat left vacant when Councilwoman Amber Longhitano resigned. Longhitano announced her intention to resign at the March meeting and last attended a meeting in April.

Wagner, who serves as the secretary to the Bristol Township School Board and is married to District Judge Robert Wagner, will be officially sworn in at the council’s meeting in June.
Councilmen Howard Allen and Patrick Antonello voted against the appointment. Councilman John Monahan was absent from the meeting.
Antonello’s only concern with Wagner joining the governing body involved questions over the validity of Longhitano’s resignation because she had not submitted a formal resignation letter by the time of the vote.

Solicitor Randy Flager responded to Antonello’s concerns by stating Longhitano had verbally stated her resignation. He added that not appointing someone to fill the former council person’s seat could create a problem because the township is required to make an appointment within 30 days of resignation.
