One of Bristol Township’s most passionate council members will be resigning from her post.
Councilwoman Amber Longhitano announced Thursday evening that she will be stepping down at next month’s meeting due to a new job opportunity that will see her spending time outside of the area.

“I’m very sadly announcing that next month will be my last meeting,” she said.
“My heart is always here, and I will never desert anyone here. If anyone ever needs me, I will stand up and fight right beside you.”
Longhitano, a realtor from Croydon, has been on Council for about five years.

When the majority of Council was slowly reacting to the boom of recovery homes in Bristol Township, Longhitano raised the issue and worked with state and federal lawmakers to try to pass restrictions on homes that were bringing down neighborhoods.
She also advocated that the township work closer with the school board. The relationship has long been frayed but has recently seen positive steps toward cohesion, as referenced by comments made Thursday evening by Council President Craig Bowen to School Board President Angela Nober.

Longhitano ran as a member of the “Pro Team” but that partnership fell apart in the days leading up to the 2017 election. At times. Longhitano has had passionate disagreements with fellow council members.
Bowen seemed shocked at Longhitano’s announcement.
“That’s a wow. That came out of … I had no idea. Jesus,” Bowen said. “Amber, I will miss you.”

Once Longhitano’s resignation is accepted, the Council has 30 days to appoint a replacement.
