The world-famous Pennsbury Prom is just days away, and true to form, many volunteers were at the East Campus of the high school Wednesday night putting the final touches on the decorations before the Saturday event.
The theme this year – “Yo Philly – is all about Philadelphia. Prom organizers said the theme honors the people, places and culture the city.

Terry Poulton is one of the volunteers and is the chair of the lobby decorations for prom. Recently, he has been putting in about 60 hours every week to prepare for the big night. His daughter is set to graduate next month so building her prom gives him a bit of a reason to up his production time.
Tony Napoli, an art teacher at the high school and the senior prom advisor, outlined a lot of the decorations that will be on display for the prom. The decorations include a rotating “Love” sign, an ode to the flower show, the Philadelphia Art Museum and other landmarks from the City of Brotherly Love will on display for prom-goers.
“I think the most visually striking piece will be the Philadelphia Flower Show,” Napoli said.

Mckayla Horton and Devi Dutta are seniors co-chairing the gym lobby area of the school. Horton said she is responsible for bringing the Magic Garden mural to life.
“We’ve been waiting for this for four years,” she said with excitement in her voice.

Leslie Kliesh has been working on the prom for eight years. Even though her kids have graduated from Pennsbury, she is still dedicated to make the prom magical for Pennsbury seniors. “I’m going to be here until my grand kids come through the school,” she said laughed.
Aside from the always-stunning parade, decorations and aesthetics, one of the most amazing facts is that nearly all the decorations from prom are taken down within the 24 hours after it ends.
A public walk through of the prom decorations at Pennsbury High School East will be open from noon until 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 20. The prom entrance parade at the East Campus and will begin at at 5:15 p.m. and run until about 7:30 p.m.
