Two apartment complex residents and a firefighter were injured during a Friday afternoon blaze in Middletown.

The blaze was reported at 2:16 p.m. in a second-floor apartment at the Longview Garden complex along Woodbourne Road in Middletown’s Levittown section.
William Penn Fire Company Deputy Chief Jim Bampfield and Middletown Fire Marshal Jim McGuire said Engine 77 was first to arrived and performed a quick knock down of the flames. They added the fire crew was in the nearby station after being recalled from a previous call in Fairless Hills.
Bampfield said the resident of the apartment where the fire happened was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation and minor burns. A second building resident was transported to the hospital for smoke-related problems as crews were cleaning up. Both were taken to Aria-Jefferson Health’s Bucks County campus for treatment by the Penndel-Middletown Emergency Squad.

The injured William Penn Fire Company firefighter suffered cuts to his hand from glass, the deputy chief said.
McGuire told LevittownNow.com that four apartments in total were damaged, but firefighters’ quick response stopped the flames from spreading.

The exact number of displaced residents was not immediately clear and the Red Cross was being notified.
The cause of the fire, which started in the living room, remained under investigation as of late afternoon, the fire marshal said.
An apartment complex resident said the management requires them to have renter’s insurance.

Fire police closed a portion of Woodbourne Road until firefighters packed up their trucks. The road was blocked for about an hour.
Crews from the Edgely, Fairless Hills, Langhorne-Middletown, Levittown No. 2, Penndel and Newport fire companies assisted William Penn firefighters at the scene.
