A solar panel unit was linked to a fire late Thursday morning.

The home in the 100 block of Kenwood Drive in Tullytown’s Levittown section did not suffer any serious damage, but contractors came out to secure the live solar panels following a fire in one of the units, Tullytown Fire Company Deputy Chief Aaron Cohen said.

Firefighters were dispatched at 11:55 a.m. and arrived to find a civilian working to put out the blaze on the roof of the house, Cohen said.

The fact that solar panels are always putting out electrical currents can cause complications when fighting fires. Cohen said the electrical contractor was called out to secure the panels for that reason.

PECO also sent a crew to the scene to assure the safety of their equipment.

No injuries were reported.

The Edgely, Fairless Hills, Levittown No. 1 and Levittown No. 2 fire companies responded to assist Tullytown firefighters. In addition, the Levittown-Fairless Hills Rescue Squad sent an ambulance.
